Toll Free Lines
Title V requires each state to operate toll free phone lines to improve access to health information and to facilitate referrals to care.
West Virginia originally established the toll free lines in 1980, prior to the federal mandate, and subsequently, West Virginia has served as a prototype for other states. The toll free lines receive 1,500+ calls monthly and are staffed by social work and nursing personnel. Calls and follow-up with consumers to determine satisfaction routinely occur. The toll free lines have been determined to play a major role in improving health care access.
Anyone wishing additional information on programs and services are encouraged to call the Office of Maternal and Child Health at 1-800-642-9704 or 1-800-642-8522.
