Some Tips for Upholding Confidentiality

Only share confidential information with fellow multi-disciplinary team members. Information cannot be shared with others unless the parent/caregiver has signed a release/consent for that individual.

Make sure that you secure documents in your trunk while out making home visits.

At home, store all documentation in a locked filing cabinet and keep documents out of plain sight of your spouse/children.

In public settings, hold conversations in private areas where other people can’t overhear (do not use names).

Do not make comments on social networking sites about families; team members or specific situations/issues.

OSCs - Reminder when you're in the transition process that you notify the team once the IEP has been completed to notify the team immediately when Part B begins the service. Practitioners will unknowingly provide service for which they cannot bill for due to their busy schedule.
