WV WIC Approved Food List
How is the West Virginia WIC Food List determined?
The WV Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants
and Children (WIC) Approved Food List is evaluated and updated once
every two years by a Food Product Review Committee. The committee
consists at a minimum of the State Agency Nutrition Education
Coordinator, the State Agency Vendor Management Coordinator, a Local
Agency nutritionist, and a Local Agency vendor liaison.
Federal Regulations for WIC outline minimum requirements for foods
to be included on the WIC-Approved Food List. WV WIC has established
additional standards to further define allowable foods.
A reasonable number of alternative choices of all eligible products
are offered. WV WIC reserves the right to limit the number of food
items within the food categories. Meeting the criteria for the
WIC-Approved Food List does not guarantee inclusion on the food list.
The WV WIC-Approved Food List was recently
revised and will become effective on May 1, 2007.
