Juices

What is the selection criteria for WV WIC approved juices?

Infant Juice:

The contracted brand and amount of infant juice allowed is specified on the draft.

Infant juice must contain a minimum of 30 milligrams of vitamin C per 100 milliliters.

Juices containing yogurt or fruit are not allowed.

Drafts including infant juice are issued when the infant is six months of age. At this age the infant is developmentally ready to begin learning to drink from a cup.

Juice:

The brands of WV WIC-approved 100% fruit juice or vegetable juice are specified by the food list.

The amount allowed of canned, plastic or glass single strength (46-oz.) container and/or concentrate (11.5 or 12 oz.) is specified on the draft.

Juice must contain a minimum of 120% of the RDI for vitamin C per 100 milliliters single strength or reconstituted frozen juice.

The following are not allowed:
Juices with added sugar or sugar substitutes.
Fortification other than vitamin C.
Juice drinks; or juices with carbonation.
Generic brands or store brands, except when the WV WIC-Approved   Food List states "any brand".
Cardboard containers.
