WIC in the Shopping Cart

All certified WIC participants are eligible to receive a supplemental food package in order to help meet their body's nutritional needs.

WIC-approved foods are high in certain nutrients, such as protein, iron, calcium, and vitamin C. These nutrients are needed in greater amounts by those in the categories served by WIC. A WIC participant’s nutritional status is expected to improve as a result of the WIC benefits, including the supplemental food package that WIC provides.

Pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, and children one to five years of age receive the following foods every month. The amounts differ for each participant category.

Cereal
Milk
Cheese
Juice
Eggs
Dry beans/dry peas and/or peanut butter

Breastfeeding participants who are not receiving any formula from WIC also receive.

Carrots
Tuna

Infant participants receive the following to one year of age.

Infant cereal is provided at four months of age when the infant is developmentally ready to learn to eat solids from a spoon.

Infant juice is provided at six months of age when the infant is developmentally ready to learn to drink from a cup.

Iron-fortified infant formula is provided for infants whose mothers choose to not breastfeed or to only partially breastfeed.

NOTE:  WIC is a supplemental program and does not provide all the foods that participants may require for healthy growth and development.
