How do I find the statistics I want?
Our annual Vital Statistics Publications provide a broad range of information about population, births, deaths, marriages, divorces, and specific diseases among West Virginia residents, including many county-level breakouts. In addition to major publications like the annual Vital Statistics and Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey, the HSC has begun publishing a series of statistical "Briefs "on various health-related topics. Some publications are available online and others are available in hard copy only. Visit the Publications page for a current listing of available publications.
The West Virginia County Health Profiles 2004 cover a broad range of statistics and compare West Virginia and county statistics to United States statistics.
The Statistics and Trivia page will give you a quick overview of state statistics and also includes links to outside sources like the U.S. Census Bureau and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.
The Health Status Atlas displays a variety of health-related data for the U.S. and West Virginia.
We also accommodate special data analyst requests for our data and assist in the proper interpretation of health data.
If you are seeking birth or death certificates, visit the Certificates page to learn who may obtain copies and how they may obtain certified copies.
The Genealogy page provides information on sources for genealogy research. West Virginia is a closed record state. Only specific persons may obtain copies of birth certicates from Vital Registration and a search/copy fee is charged per record.
