Genealogy

The best online source of data for genealogical searches is the West Virginia State Government Archives and History home page, located at: http://www.wvculture.org/history/(Click on "Genealogy Corner" under the"Explore Archives and History" section.)
Other Internet resources are WV Gen Web Project and West Virginia University Libraries", West Virginia Collection.

The offices of the individual county clerks provide another avenue of research. In addition, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has compiled extensive genealogical records and may have useful information. This web site is located at http://www.lds.org/familyhistory/.

For certified copies and/or searches for certified copies, the state Vital Registration Office is required by law to charge $10.00 per search. View the "Certificates" page to see the requirements and downloading the forms for searching and obtaining birth and death certificates. You must be a direct lineal decedent of the individual for whom you are searching and know their full name and date of death.

To speak with someone in Vital Registration, call 1-304-558-2931 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m excluding official state holidays. Our best wishes for success in your search.
