About Us

HELPING TEENS MAKE HEALTHY DECISIONS

The Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Initiative works to increase public awareness about problems resulting from early sexual activity and childbearing. APPI collaborates with existing community organizations to promote local activities. APPI provides abstinence-based education but includes information about contraception and access to family planning services.

APPI provided reproductive health education to nearly 8,000 students in 61 locations and worked with Lakin Women’s Correctional Facility to provide healthy relationship and contraception education to inmates preparing for release.

In 2018, APPI received an award from the WV Immunization Network (WIN). Each year, WIN holds an awards event to recognize individuals and organizations that have gone above and beyond to improve immunization rates. APPI was selected to receive an award from WIN for the promotion of the Gardasil vaccine during classroom presentations.
