HYMS,
Helping Young Moms Survive
, is a community funded program to purchase small items for pregnant, or parenting teens to take the crisis out of their daily lives, and help them finish school.

A teacher that works with the students, and know them best, is empowered to write vouchers to pay for any small item. The vouchers are accepted by local merchants who, in turn invoice the church or funding organization.A Teacher Voucher is also included to reimburse teacher for expenses paid on behalf of a student. Generally, $200 dollars will fund the program for the first year. Funding comes from donations from local civic clubs, women=s groups and church organizations.

SWAN

The program includes both Store Vouchers and Teacher Vouchers, enabling teachers to be reimbursed for handling the crisis faced by their students. Many extracurricular activity fees are paid from this fund, so all students can participate in school activities. With $200 the program can be funded for a year. Donations from local civic clubs, women=s groups, and church organizations.

HOW TO GET YOUR STUFF IN THE PAPER
An instructional program that describes how to write up local youth activities or programs in such a way that it is most likely to be published by the local paper. Public awareness of adolescent health problems, a long with what is being done about them is extremely important when gathering support for youth programs.

TEEN ISSUES FORUM
A program to organize an entire school to teach only preventive health education on a special day. The student body picks the topics to be presented. Professional people within the local community are asked to make presentations on the selected topics. Each student then picks the presentations they want to hear. Many important health topics that are not in the school curriculum, can be addressed with this program. This program has been successful with both the school systems and the students, and helps with the school/ town relationship.

HOW TO WRITE A MODULE, MODULE
A instructional packet on the format of the module to help teachers and youth workers write up their successful programs, or activity, so others can use them. There is an explanation for each section of the module. The West Virginia Adolescent Health Initiative would be glad to help field testing modules from other programs
