LEVEL SCHOOLS HEALTH CARE SETTINGS (HCS) WORKPLACE BROADER COMMUNITY
AWARENESS (Informs the public about health issues, concerns, and/or solutions) *Provide visible signs and stickers *Provide information about environmental tobacco smoke and smoking cessation resources in patient waiting rooms *Distribute pamphlets, brochures, etc., in new employee orientation programs

*Provide information in payroll stuffers, etc.

*Get message out through use of PSA’s, billboards, letters to the editor, op-ed pieces, etc.
KNOWLEDGE/

SKILLS

Educates the public about the causes, symptoms, strategies, etc., of public health issues)

*Provide tobacco education and cessation information in school newsletters *Provide patients with brochures, fact sheets, etc., - in waiting rooms of hospitals, and doctor’s offices *Promote smoking cessation and education classes as continuing education units to staff

*Offer information about a smoke-free worksite policy

*Offer sessions to community activist groups such as women’s clubs, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, etc.
SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENTS

(Creates an environment that supports, promotes, and encourages healthy behaviors)

*Provide cessation classes, incentives, and peer support groups *Encourage incentives such as reduced insurance premiums with cessation

*Plan and establish tobacco interventions with all patients who use tobacco

*Strengthen alliances with all the medical community, health insurance providers, and other health professional groups

*Provide incentives for employees who do not smoke such as breaks, prizes, etc.

*Make self-help materials available to businesses in the community

*Promote cessation programs as a community service
POLICIES/

REGULATIONS

*Enforce no tobacco policies in school property

*Enforce high school stadium smoke-free policies

*Prohibit tobacco use within 50 feet of HCS entrances *Encourage businesses such as auto-body shops not affected by CIA to go smoke-free

*Encourage parks & recreation programs to go smoke-free

*Encourage malls to go smoke-free

*Promote an alcohol and tobacco - free New Year’s Eve celebration.
