Channels and Levels of Interventions

LEVELS SCHOOLS HEALTH CARE SETTINGS (HCS) WORKPLACE BROADER COMMUNITY
AWARENESS

(Informs the public about health issues, concerns, and/or solutions)

*Place "sponsor signs" at Little League fields, schools, etc. *Provide signs, brochures, etc., about the increase in youth usage rates in patient waiting areas *Sponsor educational presentations and purchase newspaper ads promoting tobacco-free lifestyles *Present programs to 4-H clubs, et.c, to educate the public on the dangers of youth addiction
KNOWLEDGE/

SKILLS

Educates the public about the causes, symptoms, strategies, etc., of public health issues)

*Conduct a youth tobacco survey

*Administer regional trainings for youths on how to conduct compliance checks of tobacco retailers

*Distribute information at local health fairs   *Provide retailers with "We Card" materials and youth access packets

*Conduct compliance checks

(Creates an environment that supports, promotes, and encourages healthy behaviors)

*Encourage youth participation in the Great American Smokeout     *Utilize the media to heighten awareness about the negative economic and health effects of tobacco use

REGULATIONS

(Establishes and enforces policies and/or laws that promote healthy behaviors)

*Prohibit tobacco advertising within 1,000 feet of schools

*Ban vending machines in nonmonitored areas

*Prohibit wear of "Marlboro Gear" and other tobacco-related advertising products in schools

    *Continue to reinforce the need for compliance with FDA regulations restricting youth access
