Fox found in Boone County tests positive for rabies
Officials with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources have received confirmation that a fox found in the Spruce Fork area of Boone County has tested positive for rabies.
Members of the public are reminded to avoid contact with wild animals such as raccoons, skunks, foxes and coyotes and to contact their local health department if they notice any animal exhibiting abnormal behavior. In addition, vaccinating pet dogs, cats and ferrets against rabies is an important step in preventing rabies in pets and humans.
Officials need help from area citizens in identifying animals for testing. Anyone observing animals behaving abnormally should contact 1-800-423-1271.
