Chelsea Willis is named "Outstanding Achiever"

Chelsea Willis, 15-year-old daughter of Jerry and Jeannie Willis of Keyser, was named an "Outstanding Achiever" at the Miss Teen of West Virginia Scholarship and Recognition Pageant, which was held August 4-6 at West Virginia Wesleayn College in Buckhannon. Thirty teenage girls from across the state participated in the event, which culminated with the naming of new Miss Teen of West Virginia State Titleholder.

The Miss Teen of West Virginia Program is not a beauty pageant. Rather, each candidate is scored is six areas of competition Scholastic Record; Achievement and Service to School and Community; Personal Wear and Judge's Interview. The young woman selected as Miss Teen of West Virginia receives a $1,00.00 cash prize, a $1,00.00 educational bond and a $250.00 grant to her high school. She will also have the opportunity to compete for the National Title of Miss Teen of America and vie for scholarships, awards and prizes valued at $20,000.

Special guest at the ever was Miss Teen West of West Virginia 2004/1005, Amada Runyon of Debarton.

National Director, Patrick Liestman, stated "Amanda Runyon has done an excellent job representing all of the accomplished young women of West Virginia. She will be an excellent mentor for Miss Teen of West Virginia, 2006 as well as the 2006 candidates."

Chelsea was sponsored in the pageant by: the Local 400 SPFPA International Union, Vietnam Veterans of America, chapter 172; Jerry and Jeannie Willis; Reeds drug Store; Robert and Dorsey; Brett and Billie Joe Biddle, Nancy Hanks VFW Post 3518; Keyser VFD; Alliant Tech Systems.
