Commission Seeks Comments on Deaf Child’s Bill of Rights Draft
Public Comment Period ending July 03, 2009
The WVCDHH has drafted a Deaf Child’s Bill of Rights (DCBR) modeled after similar bills in other states. The purpose of this legislation is to raise awareness of the unique and complex needs of deaf and hard of hearing students in West Virginia with the ultimate goal being that increased awareness will lead to enhanced educational services. In order to ensure that the bill satisfies this purpose, we are seeking comments from all stakeholders in the state. Your feedback will assist us in revising and strengthening the bill and ensuring that we have addressed the most pertinent needs. Our hope is to have this bill introduced in the 2010 legislative session.
Read the draft of the bill here.
Comments must be received by 5:00 on Friday, July 3, 2009 to be considered in the final draft. The DCBR committee along with Board members will review all recommendations in July with the goal of sending the final draft to the legislature in August.
