SIGN LANGUAGE FOR BEGINNERS

American Sign Language is a visual-gesture language developed over many years by deaf people to communicate with each other. Today many thousands of people are discovering the satisfaction, excitement, and communicative qualities of this expressive, visually rich language, and so can you.  This 8-week class will start with your basic signs and fingerspelling, while progressing to reach our goal: to have simple conversations with people who are deaf.
Required text – Signing Illustrated, ISBN 0-399-52134-8 (Amazon.com $11.02 new).

In this "Beyond Beginning" sign language class you will, (1) refresh and strengthen previously learned signs, (2) expanding sign terminology, and (3) learn techniques to put all this knowledge into practical use. Using handouts, feedback and interactive activities, you will enhance your skills in vocabulary development, appropriate word choices/usage and fingerspelling/number comprehension. MAKING COMMUNICATION HAPPEN

There is a significant difference between the "process of learning" and the "process of thinking". Without effective communication, we can do neither! This 8 week class is specially designed for professionals, agencies, and parents of individuals with communication barriers. You will be taught "goal specific" techniques to enhance communication effectiveness, while overcoming obstacles. For a message to be conveyed, communication must happen!  This intensive class will provide you with the information, resources and tools you need to succeed – including incorporating sign language into your communication.  Register today for a powerful and rewarding training experience, taught by owner of the state’s only certified interpreter agency.
