Deaf Awareness Week


Deaf Awareness Week is also known as International Week of the Deaf. International Week of the Deaf is about gathering together, becoming united and showing that unity to the rest of the world. The International Week of Deaf also increases solidarity among deaf people and allies and is used as a way to stimulate greater efforts to promote the rights of deaf people. - World Federation of the Deaf, http://wfdeaf.org . It is recognized and celebrated every year during the last full week of September. There are over 70 million deaf people worldwide. Deaf Awareness Week was established to publicize awareness the deaf citizens accomplishments. The issues that deaf citizens face are also discussed worldwide. During the designated week many organizations, schools, and businesses set up activities and events to educate people about deafness and the Deaf community.
