I. Welcome The meeting was called to order at 1:10 p.m. All were welcomed to the meeting. II. Reading of the Minutes Minutes from the September 21 meeting were read. Mr. Harrison asked for any discussion of the minutes. The Board Members voted to accept the minutes as read. Motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Barbara King and seconded by Pierre Sevigny. Motion passed. III. Old Business A. Board Member attendance procedures Alice Kennedy made a motion that a clause be added to the attendance letter asking for an alternate designee and have the designee contact the Commission office. Pat Moss seconded, motion passed. B. March 2001 Board Meeting Barbara King will check to see if we can get a room at the DRS Institute. The meeting will be Thursday, March 22, 2001 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Pierre Sevigny made motion to meet March 22, 2001 at the DRS Institute. Shana Phares seconded, motion passed. C. Board Retreat June 2001 Retreat will be Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9. We will attend the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind Graduation Ceremonies on Friday morning and begin meetings on Friday after graduation ceremonies are concluded. Pierre made motion to accept Retreat plans, Delores Pyles seconded. Motion passed. IV. New Business A. Executive Director's Report Office Update: Lack of access to internet and copy machine. Office activities report (see Performance Measures sheet) Accessibility Plan (see letter to Virginia Tucker) Task Force Update: Department of Education's Task Force on October 24 and 25 (see attached agenda) Four subcommittees:
WVCDHH's Task Force - no award NAD/RID Interpreting Evaluation Update (Kara): See attached letter regarding NAD and RID's future plans. Two Positions: Both positions have class specifications by adding Interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to the Area of Assignment. Considering several sources to advertise for the position. Board Handbook: Revised copy of the Board Member's Job Description and Responsibilities for the Board Handbook. B. Announcements Jimmy Harrison announced that the West Virginia Association of the Deaf will have its annual conference on June 14-16, 2001 at the Holiday Inn Express in Wheeling, WV. Dr. Dee Bodkins told Mr. Harrison to send information to the Office of Special Education and she could financially support the attendance of teachers and interpreters for the deaf. C.
