Marty Blakely, Commission Chairman:

Hello everyone! Welcome to the West Virginia Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (WVCDHH)! My name is Marty Blakely and I’m the Chairman of the Commission. The deaf and hard of hearing in this wonderful state have really wanted a vlog rather than information just in print. We understand that you’ve requested that because American Sign Language (ASL) is so important to you, our deaf and hard of hearing citizens. So we decided to create a vlog so that deaf can communicate with each other in their first language. From now on Marissa Sanders, the Commission’s Executive Director, will lead the vlogs. She will keep you informed about scheduled events, emergency information, and other news. And now Marissa will say a few words. Many, many thanks for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend.

Marissa Sanders, Executive Director:

Hello! Welcome to our new vlog! My name is Marissa Sanders and I’m the Executive Director of the West Virginia Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I want to thank Marty Blakely, our chairperson, for your nice introduction to our new vlog. This is a wonderful way to share information with the deaf community in ASL. When we have new information or events to tell you about, we will put a new vlog on the website. We will also post these videos on YouTube and deaftv, so there are three different places you can get information about the Commission. So check the website every now and then to see if there’s a new vlog and we will try to keep everyone informed. We’re happy to have this wonderful way to communicate and thank you for your continued support.

New Information Added to Website!

We have added some new information and documents to the website. Under "How Can I Find...?" there are new links with information about the West Virginia Registry of Interpreters (WVRI), the Accessible Smoke Alarm Project (ASAP), and medical Appointment Cards.

There are also brochures and documents available for download. Please check these out and utilize these resources!

Emergency Preparedness

In response to the recent storms and power outages, WVCDHH is working with other state agencies to set up emergency response systems and improve information sharing during emergencies. In addition, we all need to be prepared for emergencies. We have created a new link on our home page where we will post information about preparing for emergencies. Please click here to see this information, and check back often since we will add more information as it becomes available.
