SERVICES AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC:

VERIFICATIONS

In addition to the Medical Doctor/Podiatrist/Physician Assistant Search feature on this website, the West Virginia Board of Medicine is able to verify by telephone the licensure status of a medical doctor (M.D.), podiatrist (D.P.M.), and physician assistant (P.A.). Such verification includes the following:

  1. the current licensure status
  2. disciplinary information
  3. malpractice information
  4. closure decisions and
  5. general directory information (such as school attended, date of birth, address of record, etc.).

Such inquiries for medical doctors (M.D.’s) and podiatrists (D.P.M.’s) should be referred to the Board’s Verification Officer, Ms. Pennie Price. For verifications of a physician assistant, contact the Board’s Physician Assistant Coordinator, Ms. Charlotte Jewell. Verifications may be requested in writing at a cost of $25 per licensee request, with a check or money order payable in advance to the West Virginia Board of Medicine.  Additional documents (i.e., disciplinary information, malpractice information, closure orders, etc.) are available from the Board upon written request at an additional cost of 75 cents per page.

For information on other professional and occupational licensing, including doctors of osteopathy, visit:  The Secretary of State's website

COMPLAINTS

The Board of Medicine is the agency responsible for the discipline of medical doctors (M.D.’s), podiatrists (D.P.M.’s), and physician assistants (P.A.’s) for M.D.'s. The Board may only investigate matters related to a specific licensed medical doctor (M.D.), podiatrist (D.P.M.), and/or physician assistant (P.A.). The Board of Medicine is not permitted, by law, to investigate clinics, hospitals, or health centers.

To file a complaint against a medical doctor, podiatrist, or M.D.'s physician assistant, call or write the Board Offices to request a COMPLAINT QUESTIONNAIRE, or follow the links below. Please direct your inquiries to the Board’s Complaint Coordinator, Ms. Charlotte Ann Pulliam.  The following procedure outlines the complaint process of the Board of Medicine:
