ANNUAL PROGRAMS

    Women’s Day at the Legislature
- Women's Day at the Legislature is an annual event the Women's Commission holds to allow women and girls in West Virginia an opportunity to learn about laws, the legislative process, policy-making, and more.

Celebrate Women Awards complies with the legislative mandate to recognize the accomplishments of West Virginia women in 12 categories.  Any female can be nominated in the following categories:  Arts, Business, Education, Government, Labor, Math/Science, Mountaineer Spirit, Professions, Public Service, Sports, Unsung Hero and Volunteer Service.

The Student Essay Contest has also become an annual event here at the Women’s Commission.  Students grades sixth through twelfth are asked to answer one of three questions in an essay format. Read the winning essay's from 2006.

Quarterly Meetings -  In addition to our annual events, the West Virginia Women’s Commission holds four quarterly meetings around the state to discuss the business of the Commission and vote on important issues.  The Secretary of the State’s office is notified of these meetings beforehand and the public is welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings to discuss important issues and concerns.

Planning Meeting - Coinciding with one of the quarterly meetings, the planning meeting is a time for the commissioners, ex-officios and staff to evaluate the fiscal year, the strategic plan and to plan for the year to come.  A facilitator assists the group by helping them brain storm in order to decide how to make the annual events more effective, what new programs and events to implement and what new publications to develop.
