The Celebrate Women Awards banquet was held at the Charleston Marriott on April 30, 2005 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The theme for the event was, “West Virginia Women are Stepping Up.” There were decorative shoes that were placed on tables to symbolize this theme. The 12 honorees, their nominators, guests and Women’s Commission commissioners, ex-officios and staff were all seated and ready for the dinner to begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. A fabulous meal was served and guests chatted as they ate their meals. Soon after the dessert was served, the awards ceremony began. Each commissioner came forward to read about each honoree and her accomplishments and then give the honoree a framed certificate and a West Virginia Blenko Glass bowl that was engraved by Catherine Miller Designs from Buckhannon, West Virginia. It was a fabulous evening to recognize 12 women from across the state of West Virginia for their accomplishments and contributions to the state of West Virginia. |
