Rehabilitation Services
Rehabilitation Services are available to every patient, and are designed to address social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive domains of care. Various groups, classes, services, and therapies may be accessed by referral, or as a free choice activity. Rehabilitation Services staff are members of the patient's treatment team, and as such, conduct assessments, evaluations, and design and implement direct patient programming (group and one-to-one).
Rehabilitation Services encompasses three major departments at Sharpe; Adaptive Skills Center (ASC); Expressive Therapy Center (ETC); and Recreation Therapy (RT). These areas are focused on improving the functional abilities of patients, and provide a normal setting for patients to practice social skills that may have been disrupted by illness.
The ASC provides the following programs and services: full time chaplain; full time beautician; vocational training program; and various treatment programs such as Understanding Mental Illness, Self-Image Skills, Assertiveness Training, Problem Solving, Grief Therapy, Family Therapy, and Basic Cooking.
The ETC provides art therapy, craft classes, and library services. Programs include Computer Skills, Expressive Therapy, Current Events, Social Skills, and Task Skills, along with free choice craft programs on unit as a Sunday or Holiday activity.
The Recreation Therapy Department provides services 365 days a year, including a wide variety of therapy programs and free choice off-unit recreation activities. Treatment programs by referral include Experiential Therapy, Music Groups, Pool Groups such as Arthritis Aquatics, Aqua Therapy for Depression, Aqua Conditioning, and Aqua Team Building, Fitness Skills (both 1:1 and free choice), Leisure Skills, Young Adult Group, Forensic Experiential, and Wellness Skills. Evening activities range from outdoor to dances to game competitions. These activities provide a venue for patients to practice social skills, teamwork, and problem solving abilities, while having a good time in an activity.
