Psychology Services
The Psychology Department provides a wide range of services. Individual and group therapy, psychological evaluation, neuropsychological assessment, biofeedback and behavioral management are available and provided as part of hospital treatment.
Psychology is instrumental in the evaluation and treatment of forensic patients. Individuals are referred to Sharpe Hospital due to concerns as to their competency to stand trial. Psychology provides individual and group therapies to restore their ability to assist in their defense and receive a fair trial. For those found Not Guilty by Reason of Mental Illness and sent to Sharpe Hospital, therapy is geared to maximize their functional level toward the goal of discharge when they are stable and a safe placement can be structured.
Being a training/research facility, the Psychology department staff participates in the education and supervision of students and in conducting research studies within the hospital.
