Medical Services
The Department of Psychiatry, with eleven full-time physicians and four Physician Assistants, is pivotal to patient care and virtually all clinical interventions provided at Sharpe Hospital. From a thorough physical and mental status exam at the time of admission, to directing the treatment team in providing a variety of treatment modalities, to ordering and subsequently evaluating pertinent tests, to supervision of discharge planning, the Medical staff provide extremely competent oversight for patient care at Sharpe Hospital. In all instances, provision of high quality care in a timely manner takes the foremost priority for the Medical staff. As full-time faculty members of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry at West Virginia University School of Medicine, a majority of Medical staff actively train residents and medical students during their rotations at Sharpe Hospital. In addition, the Medical staff have a variety of research interests in different fields of mental health, which they actively pursue.
