The MICA program (mentally ill / chemically addicted) at William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital is provided to treat the dually diagnosed patient. A person who has both an alcohol or drug problem and an emotional / psychiatric problem is said to have a dual diagnosis.

The philosophy of our program is to treat the dually diagnosed patient implementing an integrated treatment approach. This approach treats both disorders as primary disorders and teaches the patient how one can influence the other.

Our goal is to work with the patient providing new skills and information essential for a successful recovery.
