WATER FLUORIDATION
The fluoridation of public water supplies is one of the greatest
achievement in modern public health. Fluoridation is the deliberate
addition of the naturally occurring element, fluorine, to drinking water
for the purpose of reducing tooth decay, which result in better general
health. The effectiveness of fluoridation depends on how well the
fluoride certified water operator maintains the optimal fluoride
concentration. West Virginia operators rules state that certified
operators employed by a public water system that uses fluoride
treatment shall hold fluoride certification.
National Drinking water standards can be found on the
EPA's Ground
Water and Drinking Water homepage.
