Source Water Assessment and

 Protection Program

As stated in the introduction to this site, the mission of the West Virginia Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP) is to assess, preserve, and protect the state's source waters which are used to supply water for the state's public water systems. The guide assists trainers and operators of public water systems in developing a source water protection plan. The guide, through multiple sections, details the nature and goals of SWAP, reviews the fundamentals of ground and surface water including the hazards of contamination, the steps involved in developing a source water protection plan, quizzes and a template that can be used to create, save and update a plan.
