The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (WV DHHR), Office of Maternal Child and Family Health (OMCFH) over sees the statewide comprehensive Newborn Hearing Screening Project (NHS). The NHS has been serving West Virginia families since 2000. The NHS helps identify hearing loss in infants and guide families to the appropriate services.

The goal of the NHS is to identify congenital hearing loss in children before three months of age and to assure enrollment in appropriate early intervention services before six months of age.
