The DCR Report (Data, Charts, Research) provides in depth answers to some critical questions about teen and unplanned pregnancy. At present, the report is divided into nine sections, eight on unplanned pregnancy and one on teen pregnancy. New sections with be added to the DCR Report from time to time and readers are encouraged to check back often on this ever-evolving set of data.

 

The Fog Zone: How Misperceptions, Magical Thinking, and Ambivalence Put Young Adults at Risk for Unplanned Pregnancy
This research is based on a nationally representative survey of 1,800 unmarried young adults aged 18-29 and is the first of its kind to focus in depth on the attitudes and behavior of unmarried young adults—both men and women— regarding pregnancy planning, contraception, and related issues.

The findings are contained in this report and include 20-somethings':
 

 
  • basic knowledge about and attitudes toward contraception,
  • motivation to use contraception carefully and consistently, and
  • attitudes and aspirations about relationships and forming families

 

AWHONN Launches a New HPV Campaign

The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) launched a new HPV campaign to educate adolescents and parents about HPV and cervical cancer prevention. The Be Confident campaign seeks to encourage open discussions between children and their parents and their health care providers. Produced in both English and Spanish the Be Confident materials include a comic book style brochure and poster for health and community education settings, articles and a public service announcement.

 

Campaign materials were created with support from the "Fund to Prevent Cervical Cancer" and Merck & Co., Inc., and are available online at no cost at www.awhonn.org/hpv.
