WVWC to Host 20th Annual Celebrate Women Awards

The West Virginia Women's Commission will host the 20th annual Celebrate Women Awards Ceremony at 6 p.m. on April 30 at the Charleston Marriott. The awards highlight women as positive role models, providers of selfless service in addressing concerns of women and their families, and celebrates the fact that one person can make a positive difference in her community, state and nation.

The Celebrate Women Awards serves as a "hall of fame" for West Virginia women. The awards encompass 12 categories ranging from arts to government to public service. The Women's Commission will also honor an advocate for women's issues with the Guardian Angel Award.

The 20th annual Celebrate Women Awards winners for 2005 are: arts - Sue Sergi of Charleston; business - Pam Curry of Sissonville; education - Dr. Tee Ford-Ahmed of Institute; government - S. Paige Lawrence Cruz of Huntington; labor - Nancy Law of Oak Hill; math/science - Juliana G. Serafin of Charleston; mountaineer spirit - Pamela Moyers Scott of Williamsburg; professions - Sandra S. Bowles, Ed. D. of Charleston; public service - Sharon A. Walden of Welch; sports - Marsha Beasley of Morgantown; unsung hero - Shirley Blake Wentz of Charleston; volunteer service - Sharon Smith Banks of Institute; and guardian angel award - Emily Hopta of Charleston.
