| For more information contact: Joe Thornton For immediate release Nominations sought for publication honoring African-American women The West Virginia Women’s Commission is seeking nominations to include in a publication honoring the contributions of African-American women to the state of West Virginia. Criteria for selection are based upon the level of the nominee’s service to community, inspiration to others, lasting impact, ability to create opportunities for others and/or exhibiting great courage. Categories for nomination include: arts, business, education, public service, professions, government and volunteers/heroes/trailblazers."The women’s commission has taken special note of the enormous contributions that African-American women have made throughout the history of our state and nation," said Wendy Thomas, commission chair. "The women honored in this publication represent a small sample of the countless women who have enriched the quality of life in West Virginia and beyond. Their achievements are a source of pride and inspiration to all West Virginians." West Virginia’s African-American Women of Distinction, Volume II will be published in September 2004. Nominations for inclusion in the publication must be submitted to the women’s commission no later than April 30.
