| For more information contact: Joe Thornton For immediate release DHHR fills Olmstead coordinator position Tina Maher has joined the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources as Olmstead coordinator. The Olmstead coordinator is responsible for working directly with people who have disabilities, their families, advocates, behavioral health providers and state government as well as being charged with the development and implementation of a comprehensive Olmstead plan for West Virginia. A native of Parkersburg, Maher most recently served as program specialist of MR/DD Waiver Services for a community based behavioral health agency. Maher has an extensive background in behavioral health and has spent many years working in the behavioral health profession. The establishment of the Olmstead Coordinator is in response to the United States Supreme Court decision of Olmstead v. L.C. The Olmstead decision mandates all states administer services, programs and activities in the most integrated setting. The Olmstead decision covers all persons of any age who have a disability covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act. – 30 – |
