Women’s commission offering scholarships for leadership seminar

The West Virginia Women’s Commission is offering a one-time fee waiver to various groups of individuals to attend the Leadership Development Seminar, Friday, Sept. 12, at Chief Logan State Park Convention Center in Logan.

The scholarships, or fee waivers, target high school female students from Boone, Fayette, Lincoln, Logan, Mingo, Raleigh, Randolph, Summers and Wyoming Counties. There are also 20 scholarships available for Community Access recipients and 20 marked for clients of the New Employment for Women in Logan.

The one-day seminar will feature nationally known motivational speaker, D. West, as he prefers to be called, who is a regular guest on the Maury Povich Show. The seminar is designed to introduce and expand upon the ideas of civic life. The skills to be introduced include learning how to develop a strategic plan for life, family and community, money management and how self-esteem affects leadership qualities.

Scholarships to the seminar are designated for two seniors from each county high school in the nine identified counties.

For more information or to apply for a scholarship, please contact Alison Wood at the Women’s Commission, 304-558-0070.
