Law For immediate release Big John Salvage - Hoult Road Site a Public Health Hazard A public health assessment has been conducted at Big John Salvage - Hoult Road Site in Fairmont, West Virginia, and is available for public review at the Marion County Library, 321 Monroe Street, Fairmont. Results of the assessment have determined that Big John Salvage - Hoult Road site is a public health hazard. Past exposures to copper, lead, mercury vapors, arsenic or polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons on this site or near this site may possibly have resulted in adverse health effects. Current exposures to these chemicals inside the fenced area may cause health problems to people who contact soil, sediment, and/or surface water. Individuals should avoid this site until the United States Environmental Protection Agency cleanup efforts are concluded and the public is notified that it is safe. The USEPA operations to reduce the contamination at this site are on-going. The public health assessment was funded through cooperative agreements with the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), Atlanta, Georgia, and the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
