Some families may be eligible for help with heating costs

Applications for the state’s special reduced residential service rate program for home heating will be mailed by the Department of Health and Human Resources in early October.

The seasonal program offers a 20 percent discount to eligible individuals and households to help pay for home heating costs.

To be eligible for the discount program, an individual must be a recipient of services from one of the following programs from November 2003 - March 2004:

Supplemental Security Income (Children under age 18 are not eligible.)

 

WV WORKS

 

Food stamps (Recipients must be 60 years of age or older.)

The utility company accountable for heating will be responsible for determining the eligibility for the reduced rates.
