Law For immediate release DHHR halts payments for erectile dysfunction medication to sex offenders The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources has stopped using Medicaid funds to pay for erectile dysfunction medication for individuals convicted of sex crimes. A recent policy change by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services allows states to refuse payment for the drugs. Officials from DHHR searched the West Virginia State Policy Sex Offender database against Medicaid's paid pharmacy database back to 1998. It was discovered 15 individuals who were convicted sex offenders were supplied erectile dysfunction drugs at a total cost of approximately $5,000. – 30 – |
