Terrorism and disaster response training scheduled
Because terrorism has ingrained itself in the everyday lives of Americans, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Bureau for Behavioral Health and Health Facilities, and the National Guard Counterdrug Office will conduct a joint training exercise to help incident response personnel be prepared when responding to a situation.
The two-day course, "Critical Incident Stress Management: Terrorism and Disaster Response," will be held Dec 9 - 10 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Camp Dawson in Preston County and Dec. 12 -13 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beaver. It is free to participants.
The course is open to the general public and is targeting Office of Emergency Services County Directors, those who deal with the first calls in incident situations - first responders - and personnel from the Bureau for Public Health. This course is the first of its kind in the nation.
Upon completion of the course, participants will receive an International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) certificate. Continuing education credits are pending for social workers, psychologists, counselors, nurses, as well as Law Enforcement Training credits.
Interested parties must register by contacting Faith Stuart at 304-558-5540 or Beverly Morris at 304-558-0736 no later than noon, Monday, December 2.
