SAMPLE PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: (Your name) (DATE) (Your phone number) Celebrate Walk Across West Virginia! (Company/School/Organization) will be one of the hundreds of companies, schools, and organizations statewide that will participate in Walk Across West Virginia, a statewide wellness event promoting physically active lifestyles. Walk Across West Virginia is sponsored by the West Virginia Coalition for Physical Activity, whose mission is to improve the health of all West Virginians by promoting a physically active lifestyle. Held in May, National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, Walk Across West Virginia is designed as a year round health and wellness program for persons of all ages and abilities. This event helps companies, schools, and organizations curb the rising costs in health care, increased absenteeism, and reduced productivity related to preventable health issues. The first Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health was released in July 1996 stating that, "Thirty minutes or more per day, most days of the week, of moderate physical activity can greatly reduce the risk of dying from coronary heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States." Heart disease is also the leading cause of death in West Virginia. Effective strategies and policies in the worksite, schools, and communities can help individuals change their daily habits to include physical activity. Walk Across West Virginia is designed to be fun, non-competitive and attractive to people of all physical activity levels. Some activities planned by (company/school/organization) include: (activities). For information on how to get involved in the Walk Across West Virginia contact (name) at (phone number).
