Bridges and Barriers

1. Introduce the activity by telling the group that the discussion is about good communication skills which are important in any relationship.

2. Ask them to think about the following:

• A. things people do or say that help people
• communicate (bridges), and
• B. things people do or say that get in the way of good communication (barriers).

3.On newsprint, make a list of the "bridges" and "barriers" to communication. Use the following page as a transparency to display a number of ideas that may be overlooked.

4.Refer to the Facilitator Resources (Attachment C) for more information about communication skills building.
