BMS Preferred Drug List

This site is established for the use of the Pharmaceutical & Therapeutics Committee and other interested parties who wish to follow the development of the West Virginia Medicaid Preferred Drug List (PDL)

The Preferred Drug List is a list of medications that has been recommended to the Bureau for Medical Services by the Medicaid Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics (P & T) Committee and approved by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Resources. The drugs which are indicated as "preferred" have been selected for their clinical significance and overall cost efficiencies.

All Medicaid-covered drugs noted as "non-preferred" will continue to be available through the prior authorization process. In addition, some select preferred drugs may require prior authorization, as noted. A three-day emergency supply of any drug which requires prior authorization can be dispensed by a pharmacy until authorization is completed.

Prescriptions for non-preferred drugs will require prior authorization. Prior authorization can be obtained through the Rational Drug Therapy Program (RDTP). Their operating hours are as follows:

Monday through Saturday - 8:30 AM until 9:00 PM

Sunday - 12 noon until 6:00 PM

RDTP may be reached by:
telephone to 1-800-847-3859
fax to 1-800-531-7787,

or by mail to:
Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center
P. O. Box 9511
Morgantown, West Virginia 26506-9511.
