WV Birth to Three is pleased to announce the
June 2013 Webinar schedule!Orientation to WV Birth to Three (3 Contact Hours)
Participants will learn the legal and philosophical foundations of Part C of IDEA, how early intervention is implemented in West Virginia, and expectations for practitioners providing services within WV Birth to Three. The training includes an overview of family centered services, the IFSP process, procedural safeguards (family rights), required system components, personnel standards, and enrollment procedures.

Participants will learn the background for the current emphasis on outcomes measurement in early childhood and specifically under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Creating Participation Based IFSP Outcomes (3 contact hours)
The Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) represents a collaborative partnership between the family and early intervention team. This partnership begins during initial conversations with the family at Intake, incorporating the information gathered as part of the evaluation and assessment process and ends with a decision as to how early intervention can help the child and family. This webinar will focus on how to write meaningful, participation based outcomes that support the family’s hopes and dreams for their child and family within the context of the family’s daily activities and routines.

WV Birth to Three Lunch and Learn –
Programs of the Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (2 Contact Hours)
The Division of Early Care and Education will provide an overview of the resources available to the community at the local Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies. Offices are located throughout the state, in 6 CCR&R regions, for parents to apply for child care payment assistance. Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies house the child care subsidy system for the state of West Virginia and the Professional Development Teams for child care providers. The CCR&R’s also are responsible for consumer education regarding choosing appropriate child care. Parents of any income level can utilize the consumer education resources as well as referral services. The Professional Development Teams include Early Childhood Specialist, Infant/Toddler Specialist, Behavior Consultants, and the TRAILS system.

Approximately 1 in every 88 children is currently being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and ASD’s are growing at a rate of 10-17% each year. For many children, the early signs of Autism were present and observable before 18 months of age. This training will assist participants in recognizing early indicators or “red flags” of autism in young children so that families and teams can begin seeking appropriate diagnostic opportunities, as well as beginning to implement appropriate strategies to address learning needs as early as possible. Information will be provided on: how to respectfully share your concerns about a child’s development with parents; how to assist parents in preparing to have conversations with their physicians; resources for you and families to learn more information.

What is a Community of Practice? A Community of Practice is designed to provide a framework for WV Birth to Three practitioners from across the state to share information, skills and knowledge. What happens in a Community of Practice? Members of the Community of Practice learn together through topical webinars and readings, sharing knowledge and experiences, reflecting on their own knowledge and skills, and supporting each other in making changes to evidenced based practices. If you are new to Birth to Three and in need of a way to learn from other practitioners or been with us for years and want a forum to share ideas and support others, please join us for this planning webinar. All you need to do is sign up for the Community of Practice for your discipline or profession. If you do not see your discipline or profession, please look in the upcoming months.
