WV Birth to Three is pleased to announce the July 2013 Webinar schedule!  Transition Training (3 Contact Hours) On July 1, 2012, WV Birth to Three in collaboration with the WV Department of Education began implementing revised policies and procedures to meet the new Federal Regulations under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2004) for the transition of children from Part C to Part B or other needed services. This webinar will provide practitioners and service coordinators an overview of the new components for transition including; revised transition timelines and activities, required documentation, review of revised forms, and discussion of strategies to support children and families in a smooth, seamless transition to appropriate services and supports at age three. Participants will learn the legal and philosophical foundations of Part C of IDEA, how early intervention is implemented in West Virginia, and expectations for practitioners providing services within WV Birth to Three. The training includes an overview of family centered services, the IFSP process, procedural safeguards (family rights), required system components, personnel standards, and enrollment procedures. As part of this training, we will be discussing how different personality styles and adult learning styles impact the team process. Because of this research, Congress, in 2003, enacted legislation to establish formal links between Part C early intervention programs and the state child welfare agencies through the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act. This session will provide participants the latest research on the effects of: child abuse, neglect and maternal substance abuse on the development of infants and toddlers; current CPS policy for referring CAPTA families to WV Birth to Three; and effective practices for working with children/families engaged with the Child Welfare System. The program is available in every county and provides individual services and supports to families who have a person with a developmental disability living at home. Family Support provides limited funding to buy needed services and goods that cannot be purchased through other sources. Family Support also provides information to assist in finding services and maximizing community resources. A Community of Practice is designed to provide a framework for WV Birth to Three practitioners from across the state to share information, skills and knowledge. What happens in a Community of Practice? Members of the Community of Practice learn together through topical webinars and readings, sharing knowledge and experiences, reflecting on their own knowledge and skills, and supporting each other in making changes to evidenced based practices. This first Community of Practice will be an opportunity for practitioners to share ideas and to plan next steps. If you are new to Birth to Three and in need of a way to learn from other practitioners or been with us for years and want a forum to share ideas and support others, please join us for this planning webinar.
