Child Abuse, Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) 3 Contact Hours

Research over the past ten years has helped professionals in the field of early childhood begin to broaden our understanding of the influence of genetics and the environment on the development of young children.  Because of this research, Congress, in 2003, enacted legislation to establish formal links between Part C early intervention programs and the state child welfare agencies through the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act.  This session will provide participants the latest research on the effects of: child abuse, neglect and maternal substance abuse on the development of infants and toddlers; current CPS policy for referring CAPTA families to WV Birth to Three; and effective practices for working with children/families engaged with the Child Welfare System.

Please join us the CAPTA Training on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

WV Birth to Three Lunch and Learn – The Imagination Library and Make A Wish Foundation (2 Contact Hours)
The Imagination Library

The Imagination Library has come to West Virginia!!!  In 1996, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, to benefit the children of her home county in East Tennessee, USA. Dolly's vision was to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month. By mailing high quality, age-appropriate books directly to their homes, she wanted children to be excited about books and to feel the magic that books can create. Moreover, she could insure that every child would have books, regardless of their family’s income.    Join us as Robin Taylor, Director of the Imagination Library for WV provides us with information on how you can get involved in signing parents up for this fabulous resource.
