SPECIAL PROJECTS/EVENTS/TRAININGS

Projects For Assistance In Transition From Homelessness (PATH)

PATH was created under the McKinney ACT and is funded by SAMHSA. It supports service delivery to individuals with mental illness and or co-occurring substance abuse disorders, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. West Virginia receives $30,000 which is based on population and size of the state. The formula is based on urban population in the state compared to the total US urban population. The Bureau provides funding to six agencies in various regions around the state.

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is an evidence-based approach to providing services to persons with a mental illness. This program or service provides highly individualized services directly to consumers. ACT recipients receive multidisciplinary, round-the-clock staffing of a psychiatric unit, but within the comfort of their own home and community. To have the competencies and skills to meet a client's multiple treatment, rehabilitation, and support needs, ACT team members are trained in the areas of psychiatry, social work, nursing, substance abuse, and vocational rehabilitation. The ACT team provides these necessary services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. For more information please click on one of the following:

Evaluations For West Virginia Courts

Evaluations are provided West Virginia Courts for pre-trial information concerning competency and responsibility and for pre-sentencing recommendations for persons found guilty of a sexual offense. Most of these evaluations are provided on an outpatient basis. When a longer-term, inpatient evaluation is needed, the Department operates a four-bed Forensics Evaluation Unit located on the grounds of the South Central Regional Jail in Kanawha County.
