ABOUT BCSE

Mission Statement

The Mission of the West Virginia Bureau for Child Support Enforcement is to promote and enhance the social, emotional and financial bonds between children and their parents. The Bureau fulfills this mission by:

    • Establishing and enforcing paternity, child support and medical support orders;
    • Educating parents and prospective parents;
    • Having accurate case management;
    • Facilitating parent responsibility to minimize taxpayer burden; and,
    • Performing these activities in a customer - friendly atmosphere.

Purpose of the Bureau for Child Support Enforcement

When the relationship between a child's parents ends, it does not mean that either parent's responsibility for that child ends. Both parents remain financially, legally, and emotionally obligated to a child.

The Bureau for Child Support Enforcement (BCSE) is the State agency that helps the person caring for child to collect child support from the child's other parent(s). The BCSE also helps divorced individuals to collect spousal support (also called alimony).
