Family Protection Services Board

The Family Protection Services Board was established by the Legislature in 1989 to institute the licensure of domestic violence programs. The Board also administers funds collected through fees on all marriages and divorces to support domestic violence services in the State.

The Family Protection Services Board is a group of committed citizens appointed by the Governor of the State of West Virginia. The mission of the Family Protection Services Board is to assure that programs working toward the elimination of domestic violence are adequately funded and provide quality services to victims.

The purposes of the Board are to provide ongoing administration and allocation of the West Virginia Family Protection Funds; to establish and enforce a system of standards for the annual licensure of domestic violence programs and batterer intervention programs; to research and study issues pertinent to programs for victims of domestic violence and report the results to the Governor and the Legislature.
