M. Khalid Hasan, M.D.


Dr. Hasan was appointed to the Board of Medicine by Governor Wise in December, 2001.

Dr. Hasan was born in Allahabad, India, and graduated from the Motilal Nehru Medical College at Allahabad University. After internship at Swaroop Rani Hospital, Dr. Hasan completed his psychiatric residency at the University of Birmingham in Britain in
1974.

Among the degrees and diplomas he has obtained, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Board Certified in Psychiatry by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, United Kingdom and Canada. He has obtained added qualifications from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Geriatric, and Addiction Psychiatry. He is a Diplomate in Managed Care and Forensic Psychiatry.

For the past twenty five years, Dr. Hasan has been in private practice in Beckley, where he has served as the President of the Medical Staff, Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, and participated in various medical committees at Beckley Appalachian
Regional Healthcare. He served as Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the West Virginia branch of the American Psychiatric Association and has been on the Executive Committee of the West Virginia Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Hasan is a consulting psychiatrist to FMRS, the Beckley Federal Prison, Raleigh General Hospital, Pinecrest Hospital, Plateau Medical Center, and several nursing homes in Raleigh and
Fayette Counties. He is the Director of the Alzheimer's Unit at Heartland Nursing Home in Beckley and is a recipient of a Certificate of Outstanding Service from the West Virginia Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.

He has been an examiner for the Part II Exam of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and was recently appointed to a three year term on the Visiting Committee for the Medical School at West Virginia University.

Currently, Dr. Hasan is a Clinical Professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at West Virginia University, and lectures to medical societies, nursing homes, and various pharmaceutical companies on diverse topics regarding clinical psychiatry and healthcare issues. He has been the Chief Investigator for several clinical drug studies and trials.

Dr. Hasan has published numerous articles in a variety of
medical journals regarding clinical psychiatry, healthcare reform and malpractice issues.
