4. How do I dial-in with a Windows XP laptop?

Effective Aug.4, 2004

To Dial-in from a remote location:

Plug the phone line into the port on the laptop that looks like a phone handset.

Turn on the laptop.

At the Welcome to Windows screen, Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

Click on OK at the Warning screen.

Enter your network User name, your network Password, and be sure that DHHR is entered beside Log on to:.

Click on Log on using dial-up connection so that a checkmark appears in the box beside that statement.

Click on OK.

At the Network and Dial-up Connections box, choose WVDHHR Dial-up.

Click on Connect.

At the Connect WVDHHR Dial-up box, do not touch your dial-up account User name and Password. Your dial-up account information is the same as your network information!.

Beside Dial:, choose either a Local Call or a Long Distance Call (558-5884 for a local call, 18002255288… for a long distance call).

Some hotels or other locations require you to dial-out with a 9, 8, or some other number. If this is required, you need to enter that at the beginning of the Dial: number followed by 2 commas. Therefore, the Dial: number would look like one of the following:

     9,,558-5884 – Local Call
or 9,,18002255288,,,1,,,3045585884,,,Calling Card Number – Long Distance Call.

If you chose Long Distance Call, you need to remove the words "Calling Card Number" and type in your DHHR Calling Card Number. Therefore, if your calling card number is "12345678901234" and you are in a location that requires a "9" to dial out, the Dial: number would look like the following:

      9,,18002255288,,,1,,,3045585884,,,12345678901234.

Click on Dial.

If prompted to Make the phone number change permanent, choose No.

Wait while the laptop makes a connection with the network.

When the windows desktop appears, you are logged onto the DHHR Network via dial-in. Continue working as normal. You will notice accessing files through your Y: drive or your shared folders or retrieving information through the mainframe, GroupWise or the internet will be slower.
