The Networking and Technical Support (NTS) group in MIS focuses on customer support as our primary role. NTS
provides services to the more than 5,000 customers of the DHHR network. Most of these services are unseen and
unknown by most people.
The Data Center and
Desktop Support (DCDS)
group within OMIS is
divided into two groups. The Desktop Support Team focuses on
providing 1st and 2nd level support to users located at the
Diamond Building, Capitol Complex, One Davis Square, Office of
Laboratory Services, the Kanawha DHHR and Local Health Departments
as well as serves other locations in the Charleston area.
The Data Center
is DHHR's unified, centrally managed and supported operational
center for all staff and customers. The
Data Center staff
provide 2nd and 3rd level support as well as being responsible for
all data center activities including network attached storage,
backups and restorations, web filtering, patch and policy
management, domain administration, enterprise antivirus, email
administration, network monitoring, intrusion detection and
vulnerability scans.
The most visible and resource
intensive services we provide are troubleshooting and call
resolution which are provided through our Help Desk and support
technicians. Both sections work together to provide behind the
scene activities which are the foundation for the DHHR network including network administration and operations,
planning and management; user account administration, E-mail administration; enforcement of standards, evaluation and
implementation of new technologies and technical consultation and project management.
Our customers include 1) all DHHR employees who use computers and 2) other entities connected to the DHHR
network including WIC, Day Care Resource and Referral contractors (R&Rs), and some County Health Departments.
In summary, both groups work together to evaluate the needs
of projects, offices or individual users; plans, designs, specifies, installs and configures,
maintains, troubleshoots and supports all computer hardware, software, and networks for DHHR network customers.
